Former Math Ph.D. student featured in Notices of the AMS

One of our former Ph.D. students, Nancy Scherich (2019) has published an article, Math Dance: Bringing the Process to Life in the current Notices of the AMS. Nancy was the overall winner of the national Dance your Ph.D. contest in 2017, and her article is featured on the cover.

Sui Tang Receives NSF CAREER Award

The Mathematics Department congratulates Assistant Professor Sui Tang on receiving an NSF CAREER Award. The CAREER award supports early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

Professor Xianzhe Dai Named American Mathematical Society Fellow

Math Department faculty member, Professor Xianzhe Dai, was named to the 2024 class of American Mathematical Society fellows. Congratulations Xianzhe!

The Fellows of the AMS program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics. According to AMS President Bryna Kra, "This year's class was selected from a large and excellent pool of candidates, highlighting the many ways in which our profession is advanced."

Recruitment - Tenure Track - Assistant Professor - Differential Geometry

The Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in differential geometry, at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. All areas of differential geometry, in the broad sense, will be considered, including Riemannian geometry, geometric analysis, and symplectic geometry.

Fabio Ricci Takes People's Choice Honors in UCSB's 2023 Grand Slam Showcase

Congratulations to Mathematics graduate student Fabio Ricci, who won the People's Choice Award for the 2023 Grad Slam Showcase!  This is an annual contest in which students communicate their research to a general audience in a three-minute talk. Fabio's talk was titled "Optimal Transport and Isoperimetric Inequalities (and why are pizzas usually round?)."
