Course Description: We will cover chapters 1-8 of the textbook.
Review of algebra, graphing, word problems, units, linearity, exponentials and logarithms, derivatives, maxima and minima.

Attendance: Attendance in one of the discussion sections is
mandatory (and will be checked).
- Syllabus/Reading Assignments:
The topic and reading assignments for each lecture can be found in the Syllabus, Reading Assignments, Problem Sets.
- Homework/Problems Sets/Collaboration:
There is a problem set due each day class meets. I will assign around 35 problems per week from the textbook.
You'll submit your answers on the computer, using WeBWorks.
You have two attempts for each problem. Your inital login and password is your perm number.
No late homework will be accepted. I encourage you to form study groups for the homework.
- Exams:
There will be three midterms and a final exam.
The first midterm will take place on Friday, 10/12/07, 12pm-1pm.
The second midterm will take place on Friday, 11/09/07, 12pm-1pm.
The third midterm will take place on Friday, 11/30/07, 12pm-1pm.
The final exam will take place on Wednesday, 12/12/07, 12pm-3pm.
All exams will take place in the lecture hall.
You will be required to show your student ID during the exams.
Calculators or formula sheets are not allowed in any exams.

The Math Lab (1607 South Hall, M-F, 12-5pm) can also assist you on mathematical problems.
- Grading:
The lowest score of your midterms will be dropped in the end.
On every exam Quality Bonus Points will be awarded for clear writing.
The weighting of your final grade will be 20% from your problem sets, 30%
from the two midterms, 50% from the final.
The total score is the main factor in your grade; in addition, to pass Math 34A, you have to pass the final.
