      Course Description: Math 5B is the first quarter of a two quarter sequence in vector calculus.

    • Topics/Reading Assignments:
      The topic and reading assignments for each lecture can be found in the Topics, Reading Assignments.

    • Homework/Problems Sets:
      There is a problem set due every week on Tuesdays, 8am (starting 09/29/09).
      You'll submit your answers using WeBWorks.
      You can find the WeBWorks login on the class webpage.
      Your inital login and password is your perm number.
      Questions about the mathematical notation used in WeBWorks are answered here.
      More help on the notation used in WeBWorks is available here.
      Exception: During the week of the midterm, no problem set will be posted (no PSet due on 11/03/09).
      No late homework will be accepted.

    • Exams:
      There will be a midterm and a final exam.
      All exams will take place in a bigger lecture hall than NH 1006 which will be announced in class.
      The midterm took place in LSB 1001 on Thursday, 10/29/09 during class. (Solutions)
      The cumulative final exam will take place on Friday, 12/11/09, 4-7pm.
      You will be required to show a picture ID during all exams.
      Calculators, notes, or formula sheets are not allowed in any exams.
      Blue book or scantron sheets are not needed.
      There will be no make-up exams.

    • Practice Exams/Review Sessions:
      The following practice exams will be accessible a week before the exams:
      Practice Exam for the Midterm. Solutions.
      Practice Final. Solutions.
      There will be a review session for the midterm in NH 1006 on Tuesday, 10/27/09, 8.15-9.15pm.
      There will be a review session for the final on Monday, 12/07/09, Time:TBA.
      The review sessions will take place in the lecture hall.

    • Grading:
      On every exam Quality Bonus Points will be awarded for clear writing.
      The weighting of your final grade will be 20% from your problem sets,
      30% from the midterm, 50% from the cumulative final.
      The total score is the main factor in your grade; in addition, to pass Math 5B, you have to pass the final.

    • Extra Help:
      You can sign up for free tutuorial services with CLAS.
      The Math Lab (South Hall 1607, M-F, 12-5pm) can also assist you with mathematical problems.

    • Registration/Waiting List:
      As of September 21, Math 5B was full.
      There are NO add codes available for this class.
      Before joining the waiting list read the frequently asked questions.
