Links to information about exceptional mathematics. By exceptional
mathematics, I mean (following John Baez) those exceptional
cases that occur in classification theorems. The infinite families
are by way of contrast called classical mathematics. Some of the odd
things that this includes are:
the Petersen graph and the sporadic regular polytopes,
Steiner systems and the Mathieu groups
the quaternions and octonions
the projective and hyperbolic complex spaces
the projective and hyperbolic quaternionic spaces
the projective and hyperbolic octonionic planes,
Moufang loops and Moufang projective planes,
the exceptional Jordan algebra,
the exceptional complex semisimple Lie groups,
the densely packed lattices in dimensions 8 and 24,
the Monster finite simple group, and the other Y-groups
