Course description. Math 190 is the course number used for special topics courses. The course this quarter will focus on the history of mathematics. More specifically it focuses on the history from Euler to present with an emphasis on the institutional development of mathematics as a discipline within the academy. Grading: The plan is to cover one chapter of the text each week. Homework assignments will mainly be short response essays. The rest of your grade will be determined by attendence/participation, a midterm and a final exam. The weights of each of these are as follows.
The midterm and final will again mainly consist of short essay topics. The final project will be a short paper on a topic of your choosing. Make-ups: Make-ups for exams will only be given with documented University-approved excuses (see University Regulations).
