http://www.clas.ucsb.edu
- Home Page:
- Homework:
- The homework in this course is done on the WeBWorK system,
http://webwork.math.ucsb.edu .
Your login is your perm number and your initial password is also your perm number.
- There is a homework assignment due the night before each lecture,
except for the days of midterm exams.
- The first assignment is due Tuesday night, September 29.
- Late assignments are not accepted.
- If the number of attempts for a given problem is marked as
“unlimited”, there is no penalty for getting a wrong answer,
as long as you eventually get the right answer.
- Lecture Notes:
- Notes from each lecture are posted at the WeBWork site,
shortly after the lecture ends.
- You must use your WebWork ID (perm number) to access these.
- Quizzes:
- There will be frequent, unannounced quizzes.
- Quizzes may occur in lecture, or in discussion section.
- You should be prepared for a quiz on current material
during any class period.
- Changing Sections:
- Under special circumstances you might be able to switch discussion sections. To do this you must get permission
from both TAs involved. If they agree then you can switch.
Do not drop and re-register.
(Officially you will be
in the original section, unofficially you will be in another one.) You must get a new Tardis. It is your responsibility
to ensure your name, perm and all scores are transferred between the TAs.
- Late Adds:
- If you add this class late you must talk to your TA who will arrange for you to have an average score for the work
you missed based on the work you do after adding.
- It is no longer possible to add Math 3C without filing a petition.
- Exams:
- There will be two midterm exams and one final exam.
- First Midterm: Monday, October 26
- Second Midterm: Monday, November 23
- Final Exam: Tuesday, December 8, 4:00-7:00 p.m.
- Bonus points will be awarded on exams for
high quality work.
- (This means work that is neat, and that contains
clear explanations of the steps used in solving the problem.)
- Exam procedure:
- During each quiz or exam, you must write your Tardis
number on the quiz, exam, and/or blue book.
- (You will be given a Tardis number by your TA during the
first discussion section.)
- Midterms and the final exam have assigned seating.
- You must bring a photo ID to midterms and the final exam.
- You may bring a single 3x5 card with formulas or notes
of your choosing, written in normal size, to each exam.
- You may not use calculators on exams.
- Grading:
- Midterm exams: 15% each
- Final exam: 50%
- Homework, Quizzes, and Attendance: 20%
- Grading Policies:
- 1) There are no makeup quizzes. However, your lowest quiz
score will be dropped before computing your quiz
average,
so missing one quiz (for whatever reason) will not hurt you.
- 2) There are no makeup midterms. A student with a valid
reason
for missing a midterm should present that
reason
to the TA; in this case, the grade for the missing midterm
will be the same as the grade for the
midterm that was taken.
- 3) If you cannot complete the course because of a family
tragedy or other reason, you must apply for an
Incomplete
by filing a form with the registrar by Friday, Dec. 11.
An Incomplete which is not completed during
the next quarter
converts to a grade of F.
