Information for Math 3C, Fall 2000
CLASS: INSTRUCTOR: Office hours: TEXT AND MATERIAL COVERED:

Introductory Differential Equations, Kostelich and Armbruster, Addison Wesley Reading, Massachusettes

PREREQUISITES:

Math 3B or equivalent.

HOMEWORK:

Homework will be assigned every class from the book. You should do as much of it as you can and turn it in. It will be accepted up to one week after it is assigned. The homework is not a part of the grade unless you do poorly on either the midterm or the final. Then it kicks in as a security deposit. Those who do consistently well on the homework but do poorly on either the midterm or the final can still get a good grade. The homework will be handed back in class.

GRADE:

On a scale of 100, your final numerical grade will be given by G=(2M+3F)/5, where M=midterm, and F=final. The numerical weights (2/5,3/5) depend to some extend on the total class average, and may be changed. If the grade on either the midterm or the final is below average the homework is taken into account.

INFORMATION:

Information about the class will be posted on the webpage:

www.math.ucsb.edu/~birnir
under the heading: The Applied Math. Project and the class number Math 3C.

DATE, TIME AND PLACE OF THE FINAL:

Friday Desember 8th. 7:30-10:30pm. , HSSB 1173.

The midterm will be given in class on Thursday during the 5th week.
