It has been an open question whether or not we can place quantum invariants of knots such as the Jones polynomial within classical topology. A possible fascinating connection between the knot fundamental group and the HOMFLY polynomial has been conjectured through the topological string theory. I will try to explain this connection and have no new results to report.
