It has been a long-standing problem to studying the existence of K"ahler-Einstein metrics on compact K"ahler manifolds with positive first Chern class. There are obstructions to the existence, by Matsushima in late 50s, by A. Futaki in early 80s and then K-stability in 90s. In this general talk, I will give a brief tour on the study of K"ahler-Einstein metrics on Fano manifolds in last two decades and then discuss some recent progresses on this existence problem.
