Smith and R. Minton. We will go over chapters 4-6 during this quarter. An online version can be purchased at mathzone . You can also use "Calculus: early transcendentals, single variable", 6th edition by Stewart. Then the covered chapters would be chapter 5-8. Homework - Math is not a spectator sport. The only way to learn calculus is to do it. Therefore, online homework will be assigned every week at webwork, and it is due every Thursday at 12 p.m. Exams - There will be two in-class midterms, and one final. The schedule of exams is as follows: Midterm I Wednesday, April 30th, 11:00-11:50 p.m. Midterm II Friday, May 23th, 11:00-11:50 p.m. Final exam Thursday, June 12th, 12-3 p.m. No makeup exam is given for any missed exam. You will receive a 0 for your grade if you miss an exam. The only exception is that you have a serious illness or emergency . In this case, You need to provide me with appropriate documents and the grade of the final exam will count as the grade for the missed exam. Quizzes - There are 4 or 5 quizzes which will be given in discussion sessions. Grading - The final grade for this course will be computed from your exam scores and homework scores, weighted by the following amounts: Homework 10% Quizzes 10% Midterm I 25% Midterm II 25% Final exam 30% Math Lab - The math department offers free walk-in tutoring and extra help through the math lab. It is located in South Hall 1607, open Monday through Friday, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. Tutorial Assistance - Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) offer free tutorial services, sign up online at http://www.clas.ucsb.edu/ or SRB 3210.
